It adopts zeolite molecular sieve with low silica-alumina ratio (such as A type, X type, etc.) and hydrophilicity, which can be air-dried. The water content of ethanol as a fuel is required to be less than 0.8%, but due to the azeotropy of ethanol and water, only 95% of ethanol can be obtained by rectification. For ethanol dehydration with lower water content, zeolite adsorption dehydration is a better choice.

The zeolite used in this method is of type A or type X, preferably type KA. On the one hand, the grade of type A zeolite is used, and on the other hand, the pore size of KA zeolite is about 0.3 nm. Molecules can enter freely, but ethanol molecules larger than 0.3 nm in diameter cannot enter the pores of the zeolite. This zeolite dehydration process is an industrial process for the production of fuel ethanol.
